To A Luoi and Back Again

I've had the morning off so it seemed like a good idea top get out of Hue for a few hours and take the motorbike for a drive.

I wanted to go to A Luoi for a while now and this seemed like a good time to go there. It was also a good opportunity to test the Olympus TG-4 mounted on my motorbike again.

Two yars ago part opf the road there was under construction and this is now finished and very nice to drive but the rest of the way is the same as before with the potholes in the same places still.

It was a great day out and I enjoyed the drive although I didn't fully charge the Olympus so ran out of battery a few times, lucky it charges over USB.

What I learned today is  that I need to make a proper mount for the camera so I can take photos manually rather than relying on the interval mode.

Monday Around Hue

Monday is my day off and despite a slightly late start, I decided to go for a drive around on my motorbike.

I mounted the Olympus TG-4 on my bike, set the interval mode and drove to different places and just around.

I did use the camera when stopping and at some point I reliased the best photos are the ones I take while holding the camera while driving instead of relying on the interval mode and luck.

It was a fun day out and I liked just being out and enjoying the weather although it was good to have a camera along that I didn't need to worry about.

Couple

TG-4, f3.4, 1/8, ISO 3200, RAW
It's no Sony a7s or even Ricoh GR but the Olympus TG-4 does a decent enough job in low light.

Waiting at the Traffic Light

TG-4, f4.5, 1/250, ISO 800, RAW
More experimenting with the interval settings and best camera placement and zoom settings.

Back to Hue

My short trip to Kuala Lumpur came to an end and I returned to Da Nang around midday from where I took my motorbike to drive back to Hue.

While having the Olympur TG-4 and the case to attach it to my backpack, I tried out the interval mode and see how it would fare as a GoPro while driving.

Most photos didn't turn out that great and I need to figure out the best settings and make sure I actually check where the camera points before setting off.

Still, it's done a good job where I set it out find and provided some interesting photos.

Real KL People

After spending most of my time in the new and more touristy parts of KL, I've met up with Björn again for a walk around some less touristy areas of KL.

We started off at Pudu and walked over the market there, it's a very nice and vibrant market selling all kinds of things but specialising in seafood.

Given that I was going to do a lot of street photography, I was tempted to take the Ricoh GR along and leave the Olympus TG-4 in the bag for the day.

Still, the best way to learn a new camera is to shoot a lot with it and find out whwre it works and where it struggles.

The Olympus TG-4 did a great job overall and the focus was fast and consistent enough to capture the action.

The people at and around the market were great and it was a pleasure to photograph there. While stopping for a quick coffee after out shooting session, we met some very friendly locals who invited us for some beers and some food next to providing great conversation.

The afternoon was spent walking around one of the kampung's and one worker's camp near the Mount Kiara area and this was again a great experience thanks to the very friendly locals.

This is something really missing in the West, the ability to just wander around and take photos without people being suspicious or annoyed.

It's bee a great day out and a good day for photography, something I didn't get much chance to do enough of recently.
