  1. Fantastic shot! Did you use the Panasonic 20mm lens or an actual 40mm lens?

I'm looking into the GF1 as a street camera, and I'm curious how close you were able to get to these two strangers with your camera and whether they heard the mechanical shutter click.

Also, is the image cropped much and did you take more than one exposure or just try to wait for the perfect moment and take one shot?

Anyway, I'm really enjoying your photos as I'm reading up on camera technology. It's a nice balance. Cheers.

  3. Thanks for your comment Shutterbug!

I used the Panaonic 20mm lens, I always write the 35mm equivalent focal length.

Te Gf1 is a great street camera because the AF is just so fast and accurate that you don't need to wirry about missing a shot. The camera is also very responsve and you won't have to wait for it to finish writing before taking the next shot.
The downside is the very loud shutter which I am sure both have heard but they were more focused on other things as to take notice of me and the loud click. I hope Panasonic can get a much quieter shutter for their next m4/3 cameras.

This image is only cropped to the 1:1 format bso only the sides are cropped. I was very close and just happened to walk by when I saw the moment and took the picture.

Thanks for your commenta dn I am glad you like the blog and both pictures and information on it.

Thanks you for your comment Calvin!

  4. Ah, thanks for the tips about the GF1, Cristi. I have been reading about the loud shutter. I understand that the Olympus PEN models are slightly quieter, but not by much.

Panasonic's m4/3 autofocus does seem to be better than Olympus's by most accounts. Olympus has recently released a firmware patch to improve autofocus, but I don't expect they've entirely caught up to Panasonic in AF. I would be curious to see how much they've improved though.

Anyway, I share your hopes for a quieter m4/3 shutter. Keep up the great work!

  5. For me the reason why I did not go for the Olympus cameras was not necessary just the slower AF but the horrible menu system where it took me over 15 minutes fiddling just to get spot focus enabled.
It is a shame because Olympus has the much better design from Panasonic.

    Thanks for your comments!
